Our students range in age from 18 months to 5 years, so a typical day for each student varies some depending on their age and developmental levels. All students are taught in small classrooms with low teacher-to-student ratios. Students arrive as early at 7:30 a.m. to settle into their day with choice time. Weather permitting, we are in the outdoor classroom as often as possible.
Educators begin their daily lessons later in the morning. A main goal for lessons is to involve all students and to encourage active exploration through hands-on learning. Academics include foundational learning of letters, numbers, colors, etc. and lessons and activities are engaging in a way that advances subject matter and keeps students interested in school with the highest goal being to promote exploration and creativity.
Our days incorporate about as much snack, play and nap times as they do lessons. Early learners have a lot of needs and we must meet them to maintain a positive learning environment that prioritizes direct engagement with the environment and encourages social interaction among peers. We believe that play and experiential learning are crucial for the development of essential skills at this stage.
The day ends for each student when their parent or guardian arrives. Be prepared, our students will want to share what they have accomplished over this long, busy day!
